Sukdev Shit

Sukdev Shit, son of shri Tapan Shit, presently lives in Paikbar village under Dantan-1 blok in Pashchim Medinipur district. He was affected by cerebral palsy by 85 percent. In 2016, he became involved in the direction work development scheme under the National Trust. When Sukdev first came to the Niyoti Day Care center at DMKK, it was found from his case history that he could not use his hands and feet in any way. He could not sit properly, walk, or use his hands for work. He was entirely dependent on others for his needs. He could not speak or express himself. He could not do his daily tasks. Physiotherapy and speech therapy began regularly at the daycare center. With special education, Sukdev is now able to walk on his own, eat with a spoon, and go to the bathroom alone. Due to speech therapy, he is attempting to pronounce small words and express his thoughts. Through special education, Sukdev has acquired basic knowledge. He is now able to perform his daily tasks himself after receiving training. Sukdev is overcoming various physical obstacles and making sincere efforts to integrate into society. His family members are very happy and proud of his success.

Shubhankar Bera

Shubhankar Bera, son of shri Biren Bera, presently lives in Monoharpur village under Dantan-1 blok in Pashchim Medinipur district. Shubhankar is a 75% intellectually disabled boy. Since 2016, he has been involved in the development scheme under the National Trust, managed by the Dantan Manav Kalyan Kendra (DMKK). When he first came to the Day Care Center, he faced various difficulties. He couldn’t interact with others, play, or be alone. He couldn’t perform his daily tasks properly. He couldn’t dress himself properly or express himself verbally. He was not enrolled in school.

His caregivers expressed a desire for Shubhankar to be able to do his own work and learn to earn on his own. With the start of regular special education, speech therapy, and training in daily tasks at the daycare center, he was enrolled in a mainstream school. He started acquiring primary knowledge and began reading school books. He also developed the ability to write answers. He became proactive in doing his own work and showed interest in activities like yoga, drawing, and taking PT training.

He is currently able to make photo frames himself and has started making various items out of wood. Alongside vocational training, he is studying in the tenth grade of a regular school. Through these efforts, Shubhankar is overcoming various obstacles and making sincere efforts to return to the mainstream of society. His family is very happy with his successful efforts.

Julki Patat

Julki Patat, a 75% intellectually disabled girl, became involved in the Development Scheme under the National Trust, managed by Dantan Manav Kalyan Kendra (DMKK) in 2020. When she first came to the daycare center, Julki was completely withdrawn, not interacting with anyone, and sitting in one place. She couldn’t speak clearly or interact with friends. She couldn’t do any work on her own, couldn’t dress properly, and didn’t know how to read or write. Regularly attending the daycare center, she received speech therapy, play therapy, special education, and participated in team games and recreational activities. She was also enrolled in Class Seven in a mainstream school.

With regular attendance at the daycare center and going to the mainstream school, Julki started making slow progress. She began to try to speak slowly, interact with friends, and attempt to do her own work. She became interested in studying and tried to do things on her own. Currently, she can do all her work by herself. Alongside her studies, Julki participates in vocational training at the daycare center, learning wall hanging and junk jewelry making. With the help of special education, she passed each class successfully and sat for her Board exams in Class Ten in 2024, passing them successfully.

In this way, Julki has overcome various obstacles and is making strides towards her success. Her family is very happy and proud of her achievements.

Dipu@ Priti Tiu

A CWSN girl namely Dipu@ Priti Tiu was admitted in our CCI on 02/02/2023 by the order of CWC, Paschim Medinipur vide order no- 27/10 dt. -02/02/2023. The girl was transferred from Vidyasagar Balika Bhavan (Govt. CCI), Paschim Medinipur to Dantan Manav Kalyan Kendra for better mental care and treatment. She was Mentally Retarded with 75% of disability. She was unable to express her address and family details. At first the girl could not adjust herself with the new environment of our CCI. Then we try to understand her problem with special care. The counsellor of our CCI counselled her in many sessions and motivated her. Then the girl overcame her inertia and tried to verbal interact with staff and other residents. But she could not remember anything regarding her family and address. Then we started her psychiatric treatment in Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. In the meantime, we admitted her to class-VI for formal education. We also involved her with different types of activities and vocational training. Gradually the girl became aware about the norms and rules of our CCI like other residents. Then CCI authorities decided to do Aadhar verification to know about her family and address. After conducting Aadhar verification from Regional Office, Ranchi, it was known that the original name of the said girl is Ramanti Tiu (Aged about-20yrs) she belonged to West Singbhum district of Jharkhand state. By contacting this address, we came to know that her father, stepmother and step brother are there in the family. They stayed in a brick clin in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Then the girl was handed over to her family members by the order of CWC, Paschim Medinipur through self-bond in presence of the CCI authority.

Koyel Gudia
The Source of Powerful Inspiration

Koyel is a 14-year-old specially-abled girl from Arbona village in the Dantan-1 block of Paschim Medinipur district, has faced significant challenges since being diagnosed with cerebral palsy. From childhood, she struggled with basic tasks, unable to use her hands, walk, or write. 

In 2018, Koyel’s parents made the crucial decision to enroll her in the day care center of Dantan Manav Kalyan Kendra (DMKK). This marked the beginning of a transformative journey for Koyel. The center provided her with continuous education, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and specialized care, tailored to her needs. 

Through dedicated support and Koyel’s own determination, she began to make remarkable progress. Today, Koyel can perform tasks with her hands, walk independently, and arrange things correctly. Her journey from dependence to greater independence is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of comprehensive support systems. 

Koyel’s parents are overjoyed with the progress she has made. Her success story is a powerful inspiration to others, showcasing that with the right care and determination, significant strides can be made despite the odds. Koyel’s journey highlights not only her own strength but also the impactful work of DMKK in transforming lives.
