Dantan Manav Kalyan Kendra (DMKK) had the privilege of participating in the Mahila Coir Yojana (MCY), a scheme initiated by the Coir Board, facilitated through the Coir Board Sub-Regional Office in Kolkata. Over the course of two months, DMKK conducted a skill training program under the MCY, specifically designed to empower women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Twenty women participate in each batch of this training program to learn and enhance their skills.
Under the guidance of a dedicated trainer, the women received comprehensive training in the art of coir rope making and mat production from coir rope. Through hands-on learning and practical demonstrations, the participants gained valuable insights and proficiency in these traditional crafts. Moreover, the Coir Board Sub-Regional Office generously provided stipends to support the trainees during their training period, ensuring financial assistance to those in need.
The skill training program under the Mahila Coir Yojana not only equipped the participants with valuable skills but also empowered them to generate sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. It reflects DMKK’s commitment to fostering economic empowerment and self-reliance among women, thereby contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the community.
