Dantan Manav Kalyan Kendra (DMKK), in collaboration with NABARD, organized a transformative 03 days’ residential training program for the CEOs and Board of Directors (BODs) of newly formed Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from July 27 to July 29, 2024. This initiative aimed to equip the leaders of these FPCs with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive their organizations toward sustainable growth and success.
Inauguration and Participation
The training program was inaugurated by Sri Akash Sharma, District Development Manager (DDM) of NABARD for Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram. His presence and insightful opening remarks set a motivational tone for the training sessions. Members from two FPCs—one from Narayangarh Block, Paschim Medinipur, and the other from Nayagram Block, Jhargram—enthusiastically participated in this program.
Comprehensive Training Modules
Over the course of three days, the participants engaged in a series of intensive training sessions covering a wide range of topics essential for the effective management and operation of FPCs. The modules included:
- Governance and Leadership: Understanding the roles and responsibilities of CEOs and BODs, effective decision-making processes, and ethical governance practices.
- Financial Management: Fundamentals of accounting, financial planning, budgeting, and accessing financial resources.
- Market Linkages and Business Development: Strategies for market analysis, building market linkages, and developing business plans to enhance the profitability and sustainability of FPCs.
- Legal and Regulatory Framework: Awareness of the legal aspects of running an FPC, compliance requirements, and the significance of maintaining proper documentation.
Interactive Sessions and Practical Insights
The training program was designed to be highly interactive, with a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical insights. Participants had the opportunity to engage in group discussions, case studies, and role-playing exercises, allowing them to apply their learning in real-world scenarios. Expert trainers and facilitators from DMKK and NABARD provided valuable guidance and shared their experiences, enriching the learning experience for all attendees.
Exposure Visit
A highlight of the training program was an organized exposure visit to Joyguru Farmer Producer Company Ltd. in the Dantan-1 block of Paschim Medinipur. This visit allowed participants to observe firsthand the operations of a matured and successful FPC. They interacted with the members of Joyguru FPC, gaining insights into their best practices, challenges, and strategies for achieving sustainability and growth.
In addition to visiting Joyguru FPC, the trainees also visited a local dairy farm to understand the practical aspects of dairy farming. They learned about the daily operations, challenges, and strategies employed by the dairy farm entrepreneur to run the farm profitably. This real-world exposure provided the trainees with valuable insights into the dairy business, including animal care, milk production, and market strategies for earning income from dairy farming.
Building Networks and Collaboration
One of the key outcomes of the training program was the establishment of strong networks and collaborations among the participating FPCs. The CEOs and BODs shared their challenges, successes, and best practices, fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual support. This networking is expected to lead to future collaborations and collective growth for the FPCs involved.
A Step Towards Sustainable Development
The successful completion of this training program marks a significant step towards the sustainable development of the participating FPCs. Equipped with enhanced knowledge and skills, the leaders of these FPCs are now better prepared to drive their organizations toward achieving their goals, benefiting not only their members but also the broader agricultural community.
